We perform quite a bit of public services each year. Most of the public services performed by fire departments are done at schools. What, you might ask, is the importance of special events like these? The only way that we can get children to trust us, especially when we are in full turn-out gear, is to expose them to the way we look during a house fire. Just like the police, we want the children looking at us as the good guys. We want them to know they can always come to us if they are in trouble. Beyond the appearance, we also want to educate the children in fire safety. If we can prevent them from starting fires and teaching them what to do if they see a fire, we will have accomplished the goal of fire prevention. While some fires are unforeseeable, we enjoy teaching fire prevention at an early age.
Our crew went to A.G. Richardson on September 25 for the letter "F" day. The pre-school at A.G. Richardson learns one letter per week. The week of September 25th just happened to be the best week of the year. Maybe we are a little biased but, we enjoyed spending time with the students for FIRETRUCK day! Thanks for having us!
